Hello, Boulder!
I’m Ryan Schuchard (shoe-hard). I love Boulder and my mission is to make it work for everyone, now and in the future.
Climate leader. Dad. Fixer.
I grew up working the cash register at my family’s convenience store in small-town Oregon, where you fix what’s broken. So when I served in the Peace Corps in Kyrgyzstan and saw declining snowpack push snow leopards to attack livestock, I committed my career to climate solutions.
In the two decades since, I’ve worked to lead a variety of climate transformations, from reducing energy waste in Chinese factories to launching a $60 million program bringing new models of public transit to communities across California.
My wife and I chose Boulder to raise our two girls, now in BVSD elementary school. Keeping families with kids here is a big reason for my work on council.
Upgrading the city
As a councilmember, I’m working to make Boulder life better with our children’s future in mind. That’s why I’ve championed repairing roads, protecting workers’ wages, and keeping the power on, while pushing for reliable frequent transit, protection from coal ash pollution, and protection from wildfire.
And building a community with all ages in mind is what drew me to serve on the Long-Term Financial Strategies committee, where I’m helping make our tax dollars go further.
Boulder faces a lot of pressures, from the federal government pulling back support to our buildings and roads reaching the end of their lives. But Boulder rises to big challenges. Together, we’ll make Boulder work for everyone, now and into the future.

I’m working to…
Cut the costs of living. Create more affordable and stable housing, transportation, and energy options that save money in the day to day, give people more breathing room, and make sure every dollar we spend delivers the most value.
Adapt our community to a changing world it wasn’t built for. Ramp up systems to protect Boulder from the rising danger of large-scale wildfire, strengthen flood mitigation, and prepare our energy, agricultural, and transportation systems to withstand extreme weather.
Make local government more predictable and effective. Streamline permitting and reduce wait times, keep roads in good condition, and ensure our beloved facilities like parks and recreation centers stay safe, accessible, and easy to rely on.
